We will spend the night in Fes and leave in the morning after breakfast.
Day 5: Fes – Merzouga Desert
Day 5 is a busy day. It is a long drive from Fes to Merzouga, but we’ll make several short 20-minute or so stops along the way. The first stop will be at Ifrane, also known as “the Switzerland of Morocco.” It is a very small town but so unique for its architecture and cold climate. The next stop is at Azrou’s cedar forest, famous for the presence of Barbary apes. If we’re lucky, the apes will be around, and you’ll have the chance to feed them by hand. We’ll also stop at Midelt and Errachidia. And we’ll pass by the gorgeous Ziz Valley on our way to see fossils in Erfoud. Our last stop will be at Rissani to do some shopping at the souk.
We’ll briefly stop at Sahara Desert Hotel for a cup of tea. Then we’ll cross the desert dunes of Erg Chebbi by camel to go to our camp. We will have a beautiful evening watching the desert sunset and enjoy Berber dinner and music by the campfire at our luxury camps.
Day 6: Camel trekking to desert camp and 4×4 tour
On day 6, we’ll enjoy a desert excursion in Merzouga with a local guide. We’ll visit Khamlia village and a Nomad museum in the village of Hassilabie. Finally, we’ll head back to our camp via camel. We’ll cross the desert dunes and enjoy the Saharan sunset. As always, we’ll enjoy Berber dinner and music by the campfire and sleep in the tents of our luxury camps.
Day 7: Merzouga Desert – Todra Gorges – Dadès Gorges
On day 7, we’ll wake up early in the morning to watch the desert sunrise. Then we’ll drive towards Tinghir to explore the nearby Todra Gorges, a narrow canyon famous among rock climbers. We’ll continue driving until we reach Dadès valley, where we will have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 8: Dadès Gorges – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
On day 8, we’ll explore the Valley of Roses, go sightseeing in Ouarzazate, and explore the UNESCO kasbahs of Ait Benhaddou in a guided tour. We’ll finish our tour in Marrakech after crossing the High Atlas Mountains, where we will stay overnight.
Day 9: Sightseeing in Marrakech
On day 9, we’ll see the main sights and monuments in a guided tour of Marrakech. We’ll explore the medina, souks, and of course, Jemaa El-Fnaa, a vibrant hub of bric-a-brac stalls, musicians, storytellers, fortune-tellers and snake charmers that never seems to rest. Then we’ll walk around Koutoubia Mosque, Marrakesh’s most famous landmark with its striking 70m tall minaret visible for miles in every direction. We’ll also visit Medersa Ben Youssef, the largest theological college in Morocco, and the Saadian Tombs, a 16th century burial ground home to 66 members of the Saadian dynasty, which ruled over Marrakesh between 1524 and 1668. We’ll have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 10: Marrakech – Essaouira
Today, we will drive 3 hours to the beautiful coastal city of Essaouira, also known as “Mogador.” Essaouira is well-known for its chill vibe, unique colors, architecture and blend of cultures that make it one of the most beautiful cities in Morocco. We’ll stay there overnight.
Day 11: Essaouira – Marrakech
Today we drive back to Marrakech and stay overnight.
Day 12: Free Day in Marrakech or Optional Excursion to Ourika Valley
